Khairat Kita merakamkan sumbangan Pertubuhan-Pertubuhan Faedah Bersama (MMBO) yang telah banyak berbakti kepada masyarakat Melayu/Islam dengan huluran bantuan dan dermaan kepada para ahli dalam masa kesusahan dan keperluan. Dikenali sebagai badan khairat kematian, MMBO ini pada awalnya ditubuhkan untuk memberikan sokongan kewangan kepada keluarga ahli-ahli MMBO yang telah meninggal dunia—satu titik penting dalam kehidupan, terutama bagi masyarakat Melayu/Islam. Dengan inisiatif-inisiatif yang berlandaskan kesukarelawanan dan kemasyarakatan, MMBO yang telah berkhidmat buat berzaman-zaman lamanya dilihat sebagai pengukuh masyarakat dan pemelihara warisan budaya masyarakat Melayu/Islam di Singapura.
Kini, dengan dalam 20 pertubuhan sahaja yang masih beroperasi, keahlian yang merosot dan ahli komiti yang kian menjejak usia senja, masa hadapan bagi Pertubuhan-Pertubuhan Faedah Bersama ini kelihatan kabur dan kelam. Sebuah naskhah yang menyimpan koleksi temu ramah, gambar, makalah dan renungan peribadi, Khairat Kita merupakan usaha bersepadu untuk mengabadikan dan menyemadikan sejarah dan individu-individu di sebalik MMBO.
